Virtualbox Serial Port Host Pipe

I am having a issue supporting a console port. I'm running Virtual Box 4.3.16 (latest) I entered under settings for Virtual Box: x Enable serial port x Host Pipe x create pipe Port/File Path:. Pipe COM1 When I start the VBox Windows7 and launch Putty, then type in COM1, but there is no connection.it just blinks. I know this works on the base machine because I have connection to my Cisco router, but the serial port does not seem to work on the Vbox.? Any help would greatly be appreciated!!!

END QUOTE Thank for your the quick reply. I think I have everything down in the attachments, please let me know if you need more information. I intend for it to be a Physical COM1 on the Virtual Box. I will not be using the base machine for the communications port only the Virtual Box.I thought I had to 'pipe' it to my Vbox? I'm new to this, any help would greatly be appreciated. Sep 2014, 16:21. I could swear I remember seeing an image showing COM6 appearing in your host Device Manager ports section. Did you delete it? If so then choosing to delete that image was a pity, since it was the most relevant picture posted. It's what told me that you have an actual COM6 on your host, hence a pipe wasn't needed.
